fire alarm training

Today Thursday 24th August 2017 all the participants and staff were told by Sean who is retired from the fire service about fires and how to prevent them.

We were told the most common causes of household fires which includes mobile phones and not to charge them overnight.  He asked us questions how fire starts and explained it can start in any room of the house. He also said the importance of having a smoke alarm in every room.

We also learned that when you are going to bed you should always close all the doors because smoke travels.

We were shown a video of how quick a fire can start and get stronger causing loads of damage and when fire starts it gets worse by the seconds. It was very scary!

Then we all went into the yard where he shown the three different types of extinguishers and how to use it.

We all got a chance to try and use the fire extinguishers, it was a great class. One extinguisher was foam and the other was a co2. It was very fun!

When Sean had finished we went up for tea break but as soon as we sat down the centres fire alarm went off.  So we all moved quickly out through the fire escape to our fire assembly point.

Kate the manager called everyone's names that had signed in.  There was just one participant who did not sign in.  Kate told that person the dangers of not signing in when they enter the building.
The training was very informative and we learned a lot.
