Flora Fieldtrip

On Thursday the 14th of September a large group of EVE Cherryfield participants got on the number 9 bus and headed out to the botanic gardens. At first the weather seemed to be against us but once we all fueled up on tea/coffee the weather turned and the sun appeared.
It was decided that we would all take our time to walk around the gardens as they stretch over quite a large area of land. We entered the first greenhouse where there was a long table with every type of tomato available being displayed.
Throughout the gardens there was sculptures placed and each had a name, number and artistic title. This gave people the chance to stop and view them. The sunny weather was a big help too in highlighting these works. We took our time walking the grounds and entering the greenhouses to see what wonderful and interesting flora was being grown. The main greenhouse was by far the most impressive as once you entered it the first thing that is very noticeable is the heat and after that you suddenly get the sense of being small and possibly on an alien world because of the vegetation and its maintained overgrowth.
As mentioned above the gardens are pretty big and they are divided into different sections that contain many species of plants and trees. We ended up at the main gate, the place we began from and a couple of us visited the gallery upstairs that housed even more artwork.
There was in place the chance to vote for your favorite two pieces one outside and one inside. After that we went across to Addison Lodge restaurant where we had a lovely meal of fish in beer batter and massive homemade chips the meal made hungry people happy and it was the prefect way to end a perfect day out.
